49er Impact is a pitch competition that we hold each semester. What makes the 49er Impact unique is that it was built by our students to be an interactive competition.

Requirements

Students are taking a problem found in an area of which they like and are creating a solution to fix that particular problem. 

Students are to submit a 2 min and 59 sec recording of their idea pitch.

Judging Criteria

  • Identification of the Problem
    Clarity: Is the problem clearly defined and well-understood? Evidence: Is there some data or research evidence to support their existence and importance of the problem? Has the student done a little bit of work on the problem identification?
  • Customer Identification
    Target:Are the target customers clearly identified? Understanding:Does the pitch demonstrate an understanding of the customer's needs/pain points? Validation:Is there some evidence supporting identified customer segment?Or a path to get that info?
  • Proposed Solution
    Innovation: Does the proposed solution address the stated problem? Feasibility: Does the solution have the ability to become operational?
  • Milestones
    Progression: Do the milestones define what steps are needed? Realism: Are the milestones realistic and attainable within the stated timeframe?
  • Idea Validity
    Sustainability: Does the idea have the potential to be sustainable in the long term?
